What is LES MILLS BARRE?

LES MILLS BARRE is a modern take on classic ballet-barre training: 30 minutes to sculpt and tone the postural muscles, build core strength and escape the everyday. The class borrows ballet positions and sets them to contemporary music, blending cardio and strength through high repetitions of small-range movements, using very light weights or body weight alone. Les Mills stopped releasing new volumes on 1 April 2024; BARRE 24, released in December 2023, is the last of the programme.

Frequently asked questions

Who is BARRE for?

No dance experience required. The moves are simple, repetitive and fully coached; everyone sets their own range and load.

What equipment do I need?

A barre — or the back of a chair for support — a mat, and very light weights (0.5 to 2 kg). See our picks below.

Is the programme still running?

No. Les Mills discontinued BARRE on 1 April 2024, after the BARRE 24 release (December 2023). Classes are still taught in some clubs and the programme remains available on demand on LES MILLS+.
